Children in grades K through 5 participate in a Christ-centered education designed to help them grow spiritually and skillfully for life ahead. Nurturing faculty guide students to see God’s handiwork in everything as they teach about his wonderfully integrated creation for a biblical worldview.

Curriculum Overview

  • Phonics: In grades K–2, we use a combination of Orton-Gillingham and Heggerty to build strong foundational reading skills. Orton-Gillingham is a structured, multisensory approach to phonics that supports all learners, especially those who benefit from explicit instruction. Heggerty focuses on phonemic awareness, the ability to hear and manipulate sounds in spoken words, which is a critical early reading skill. Together, these programs help students become confident, capable readers from the very start.
  • ELA: In grades K–5, we use Wonders to help students grow as confident, capable readers. The program includes a variety of rich texts and daily lessons that build skills in phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. It’s designed to meet students where they are and help them take the next step in their reading journey. With plenty of support and engaging materials, Wonders helps kids not only learn to read, but enjoy reading too.
  • Bible: DeepRoots helps students build a strong foundation of faith by guiding them through the Bible in a way that’s clear, meaningful, and age-appropriate. The curriculum focuses on helping students understand God’s Word, see the world through a biblical lens, and grow in character and faith. With daily lessons and interactive activities, DeepRoots encourages students to not just learn about the Bible, but to live it out.
  • Math: We use Bridges in Mathematics, a comprehensive K–5 curriculum that blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. Bridges is designed to develop deep mathematical understanding, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. With a strong emphasis on conceptual learning and hands-on activities, students are engaged in meaningful math experiences that build both confidence and competence.
  • Specials:  All grades have the opportunity to participate in music, physical education, art and library weekly.

Other Resources

  • Educational Support Services: NWEA MAP data is collected three times throughout the school year to drive the instructional need of our students.
  • Discipleship:  LCS students attend chapel weekly where they participate in worship and listen to Bible teaching from local pastors.  Each class has an opportunity to lead chapel.
